FirstChoice Features
Convenience, Protection, Comfort and Security—FirstChoice pouches are your product of choice if you are looking for the convenience of a one-piece pouch that is either cut-to-fit or pre-cut to your stoma size. These products are available with either flat (closed only) or convex skin barriers. Our FlexWear skin barriers are standard on the convex drainable and urostomy style pouches only where durability and long-lasting skin protection is essential. The SoftFlex barrier is available only on the closed pouches. Comfort is assured as a result of the pouch's shape, use of soft materials (e.g. the pouch is made of our exclusive odour-barrier Quiet Film) and fit to virtually every anatomy. Additional security is obtained by the tape that surrounds the edge of the skin barrier (convex pouches only).

CLOSED POUCHES
SoftFlex Skin Barrier
SoftFlex is a slim and highly flexible hydrocolloid skin barrier that provides gentle adherence to skin. It is designed for more frequently removed pouches or when the skin is very fragile (e.g. elderly ostomates).
ElastaFlex Skin Barrier Backing
ElastaFlex is an ultra-thin, soft and flexible semi-permeable film that covers the skin barrier. It keeps fluids from eroding the skin barrier.
Ultra Slim Skin Barrier Construction
Skin barrier is ultra slim in order to provide greater flexibility and mouldability to body contours for better fit and comfort.
Cut-to-Fit Skin Barrier
Allows the user to cut the skin barrier opening to the size and shape of the stoma.
Pre-Cut Skin Barrier Stoma Opening
The skin barrier is supplied with an opening that allows the user to apply it without any preparation.
Integral Gas Filter
Hollister's patented gas filter deodorises and vents gas from within a pouch. It passes gas through a specially designed device consisting of activated carbon.

CONVEXITY
Integrated Convexity (draiinable and urostomy only)
This is the outward curving of the portion of the pouch that has contact with the skin, usually the skin barrier. The convex shape provides form to the skin barrier and support to the skin surrounding the stoma.
Convex skin barriers are used for stomas that are flush, recessed or retracted for any number of reasons. These skin barriers are pre-cut and are available in many of the above solutions.
FirstChoice drainable and urostomy pouches come with unique CushionFit convexity to protect both the stoma and the peristomal skin. Convex pouches are usually for people with problem stomas to guard against unwanted leaks where the stoma is partially or fully recessed. Convex pouches provide gentle pressure around the stoma to push it forward enabling content to enter the pouch without coming into contact with the skin.
Convex appliances should be used in consultation with your Stomal Therapy Nurse or Healthcare Professional.
