| Follow these instructions if you have a round stoma and use a pouch with a cut-to-fit skin barrier. The product in the photos may not look exactly like the one-piece product you use. |
Step 1: Gather supplies needed to change the pouch.

Things you need will include a pouch, gauze or wipes, some water, scissors, pen, measuring guide and a disposal bag in which to put the used pouch. You may also need a pouch clamp, skin barrier paste, pouch deodoriser, skin wipe or other items recommended by a knowledgeable healthcare provider.
Step 2: Remove old pouch.

Starting at the top, gently peel the adhesive off skin. Use your finger to push skin away from the pouch adhesive. If there is a pouch clamp, remove and save. (In the future, ensure your new pouch is already cut and the release paper is taken off prior to removing the old pouch.)
Step 3: Get pouch ready to put on.

Measure stoma using the stoma measuring guide. Choose the opening which is closest to the size of the stoma. Trace that opening on the back of the release paper or cutting guide available from the Complete Prescription Service. |
| Cut the skin barrier being careful not to puncture the pouch. The skin barrier should fit snugly around the stoma without touching it so that all skin will be protected. |
| Remove the paper backing from the skin barrier. Set pouch aside. |
| Optional: If skin barrier paste is used, apply it around the opening. Paste will help to fill in areas that are not flat and may help to improve the wear time. Do not use too much paste. |

Step 4: Clean and completely dry the skin.

When the pouch is off, look at the skin. It may have a slight pink colour where the adhesive was. This is normal and it will go away in a few minutes. If the skin is broken, discoloured or has red bumps on it, this is not normal and you should contact a healthcare provider. Look at the stoma. It should be red and moist. A small amount of bleeding is normal. |
| Optional: If you are using a skin wipe, apply it at this point. Let it dry completely. |
Step 5: Put on the pouch.

Centre the opening in the pouch over the stoma. Gently press the barrier to be sure it has made good contact with the skin. |
| Alternatively position the bottom half of the skin barrier up underneath the stoma and fold the remaining barrier over the stoma. Gently press the barrier to be sure it has made good contact with the skin. |
Step 6: Close bottom of pouch.

If a drainable pouch is used, put on a pouch clamp. |
| If a urostomy pouch is used, be sure the drain tap is closed. |
| Optional:
A pouch deodoriser, such as M9, may be used in the bottom of the pouch before the clamp is put on. Put 4 – 12 drops in the pouch. This will eliminate the odour when the pouch is emptied. |
