  • Empty pouch when it is one-third full of discharge or gas.
  • Change the pouch if there is a leak.
  • Change pouch according to directions provided by a knowledgeable healthcare provider.

Colostomy/Ileostomy
  • Skin irritation
  • Recurrent leaks around the pouch or skin barrier
  • Excessive bleeding of the stoma
  • Blood in the stool
  • A bulge in the skin around the stoma
  • A stoma that appears to be getting larger
  • A stoma that appears to be getting smaller
Urostomy
  • Any sign of a urinary tract infection, including dark, cloudy urine, strong-smelling urine, fever, back pain (where kidneys are located), loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting)
  • Skin irritation
  • Urine crystals on or around the stoma
  • Warty, discoloured skin around the stoma
  • Recurrent leaks around the pouch or skin barrier
  • Excessive bleeding of the stoma
  • Blood in the urine
  • A bulge in the skin around the stoma
  • A stoma that appears to be getting larger
  • A stoma that appears to be getting smaller
