Living with Spinal Cord Injuries
WORKING THROUGH CHANGE
As you know, when the spinal cord is injured, the nervous system doesn't communicate properly. The nerves above the injury work fine; the ones below or at the injury don’t. Your bladder may empty too frequently, not enough, or inconsistently. The way the bladder and sphincters behave depends on the location and extent of your injury. This condition is called neurogenic bladder. The main types of treatment can include intermittent catheterization, male external catheters, and medication.
