Leading, global healthcare company founded in Chicago in 1921

2016 marks the 95th anniversary for global healthcare products and services company Hollister Incorporated. Founded in 1921 as a small printer, the privately held company has evolved to develop, manufacture, and market ostomy care, continence care, and wound care products worldwide.

With approximately 500 employees at its headquarters in Libertyville, Illinois, Hollister has manufacturing and distribution centers on three continents and offices in more than 90 countries.

Consistent with its founding structure, Hollister remains an independent, employee-owned company. Hollister also develops educational materials for patients and healthcare professionals, and provides patient support services globally to help people with ostomies or neurogenic bladder conditions live quality lives.

Local celebration
One of the ways Hollister celebrated its 95th anniversary this year was to throw a party for more than 600 Associates and guests at its Libertyville headquarters on May 20. Several other anniversary celebrations will be held throughout the world this year.

History of Hollister Incorporated
The roots of Hollister were first planted in 1921, when 23-year-old entrepreneur John Dickinson Schneider founded a small printing company in Chicago – JDS Printer Craftsman. From the very beginning, John Schneider’s business philosophy was “only first class is good enough,” and the company became known for its quality products, service, and people.

In the decades that followed, John Schneider’s company evolved from printing to developing quality medical products and services under the name Hollister. The company moved its corporate headquarters from Chicago to Libertyville in 1982.

Company culture and founder’s legacy distinguish and define Hollister Incorporated
John Schneider and his wife, Minnie Schneider, created a strong sense of family within the company. They created Hollister Incorporated on the underlying principles of dignity of the person, service, integrity, and stewardship.

“Our company’s foundation is built on the legacy John and Minnie Schneider created,” explained President and CEO George Maliekel. “That legacy and our company culture set us apart from most other companies and certainly from those in our industry. These attributes are the cornerstones of who we are and what we do, as we work to fulfill our mission of making life more rewarding and dignified for people who depend on our products and services.

“Our 95th anniversary is not simply a look back at our history. This is a living legacy that has been entrusted to our stewardship; a legacy for us to nurture and hand over to the next group of Hollister Associates who will follow us,” Maliekel continued. “Lastly, our anniversary is both a time to reflect on our history and to look forward to plan a bright future for our company, our Associates and the people we serve.”
