Hollister Continence Helps Mono Skiers

For many in Switzerland, it doesn’t get any better than skiing down the slopes on a fresh blanket of snow under a blue sky, a bright sun and the picturesque backdrop of the Swiss Alps. That is unless you’re skiing with world-champion Christoph Kunz and he’s teaching you a few things.

Christoph is a para-alpine skier and a Paralympic champion. In the 2010 Winter Paralympics he won gold and silver medals for Switzerland, and in the 2014 Winter Paralympics, Christoph won a gold medal. This past January, Christoph won his first world title in the men’s super-G sitting at the World Para Alpine Skiing championships in Tarvisio, Italy. He also happens to be a Hollister Continence Care customer.

“Christoph has been a proud ambassador of Hollister Continence Care products for more than five years. We couldn’t be more proud of him for achieving his long-term goal of winning a world championship,” says Sonam Suter, senior product manager, Hollister Continence Care, based in Switzerland. Eager to share his skills on the slopes, Christoph offered to teach eight para skiers some tips and tricks to pick up their speed on the downhill and race against a world champion … him.

It was part of a skiing day sponsored by the Hollister Continence Care team in Switzerland and the Swiss Paraplegic Association. To participate in the event, skiers needed to be competent in mono skiing to keep up with Christoph for the whole day. Also, limiting the participants to eight allowed Christoph to give each skier enough one-on-one coaching time.

“This was a fun event and all the skiers left with memories for a lifetime,” says Sonam. “We know that when people in wheelchairs remain active in a sport or physical activity, they maintain a higher quality of life. Also, skiing is very Swiss and it is something that can be shared with family and friends.”

This was a memorable experience for Christoph as well. He has already agreed to participate in another ski day next year.
